best flat iron ever by loveliee28 from on 2010-09-09 I've had the same exact Chi flat iron since December 2007. I bought it as a recommendation from the salon I used to visit a few years ago. I've since dropped it quite a few times, and the black box where you plug the flat iron in is even chipped after I pulled out out of the wall wayyyy too hard on more than one occasion. I'm proud to say my flat iron is still going strong. It straightens both my natural hair and extensions without any problems, and it leaves them both shiny. If it broke today, I'd go out and get another one, except this time I'd get the pink one!

The iron apparently works well, while it works - in this case, 2 months. CHI/Farouk's warranty policy is simply unconscionable. I read a review before buying that said buyer beware, CHI will screw you on the warranty and will honor it if you purchase the product from an online retailer. This is sadly true. They will do exactly that.My best advice is to avoid this unscrupulous company completely. There are excellent products out there. Like Hot Tools and Babyliss. Apparently CHI products aren't altogether reliable after all, or there wouldn't be so many people with defective products and return issues. But according to CHI/Farouk, my product may well have been a "replica", and that's why it failed. My take? This popular brand is having major manufacturing issues and is willing to compromise on quality. If you pay $125-150 retail price, they will make good on their warranty (minus a potentially not-so-nominal $35 charge and your time and energy). If you want to get in at a lower price point, they will not stand behind their product. If no one stands behind it, it's not a product my friends/family need to own either. Even if they end up yielding to the consumer and improving their warranty, this is a company to avoid. Caveat emptor.

She is in college, so she had to send it to me, due to paperwork, $13.00, I sent it to the company, $8.00, the company is sending a new one, I have to resend to my daughter, $8.00. constantly breaks by cdunton from on 2010-08-18 I've bought three Chis directly (brand new) from Amazon over the past three years. I use it about twice a week, and had one die on me each year. I thought maybe it was just bad luck after the first time, and maybe even the second, but several friends of mine have had the same experience. I finally wised up and bought the Metropolis on Costco.com (only $63 too). it's wonderful! My hair is much smoother, and it has a temperature adjustment. Don't waste your money on a Chi.

It works FANTASTIC! it doesnt pull your hair like other flat irons and it leaves your hair shiny and straight. there is only one setting, off and on but the heat manages to fully straighten my curly hair very well. i flat iron my hair almost everyday and this product does not leave my hair looking gross like other flat irons. also it cuts the time of straightening it works so well. i will never stray away from chi flat irons. deffinitley reccomend this product.

USED! by erin44 from on 2010-07-27 I ordered 2 Chi straighteners from this website, and they originally only sent one. I had to email them again to have the second one sent. Although the product was listed as "new," it is obvious that both straighteners were previously used. (They didn't even come in a full Chi box). The straighteners work just fine, but don't be fooled-these are not brand new.
Flimsy power cord by Dennis Connor from on 2010-07-17 Flat iron worked fine until it was out of warranty period and developed internal break in power cord. Farouk refuses to send replacement cord at any cost so my wife now has a worthless $100 flat iron. Power cord, which should last indefinitely, is very poorly designed.

Great! by LittleSammyy from on 2010-07-23 I love my new straightener. I have very frizzy, unruly wavy/curly hair and straightening it has always been impossible for me. I'd always have to have one of my friends do it with one of their straighteners, and it usually takes an hour to finish it because I have a lot of hair and it is very stubborn. I must admit that this is the best straightener I've had out of the four that I've bought. I love the color and the swivel cord, which makes it easier to maneuver. The different settings allow me to straighten my hair even if it's damp and not burn it, which was always a problem I had with my old straightener. Since there was one setting, I would straighten my damp bangs and my scalp would get burned with the smoke and whatnot. The only reason I mark it as a 4 is because it leaves my hair static-y. After I straighten it I have to use a calming lotion to get rid of the static, but I think that might just be my hair type.

Completely Died in 8mos!! Don't buy by runrgirl from on 2010-08-23 I bought this wet/dry Chi in January 2010. I had read all the reviews, talked to friends that had purchased and used this brand for years. I got it and I tried it both ways, dry hair and damp/towel dried hair. It worked well and I was pretty pleased with it.However, this morning August 2010, I turned it on, let it warm up and then, noticed that the digital display had stopped working and there were not numbers. But, I thought as long as it keeps heating up, I don't really care.Well, about 3 mins later, I realized that it was starting to cool down and the piece of junk had actaully stopped working completely! I have owned many hair straighteners for many years. I have owned Hottools irons that have lasted YEARS! And I spent triple the money on this one and it lasted for a fraction of the time. This is completelty ridiculous and unacceptable. I have yet to contact the company, but I am not too confident in their response after reading some of the posts this afternoon. I will update when I know more.I would not recommend this product and will not be buying another CHI to replace the one that lasted barely 8 mos!!It's too expensive to only last 8 mos. Just be warned, it is not a good product. It should not burn out in such a short amount of time!!
Liked it until it died by Clovis Sangrail from on 2010-06-04 I used this flat iron about 15 times before it started smoking and then stopped turning on. I liked it a lot, it's a shame. I treated it gently and always made sure it was clean before I turned it on. I bought one for my mother at the same time as I bought mine, and it, too, stopped working after a few months. And of course the only warranty is Amazon's 30 day one, and it's been four months, so I have no recourse. This is the first time I've had an expensive electrical item fail like this, and I can only conclude that there's a serious flaw in the construction of these flat irons. My next flat iron will not be a CHI.

I bought this straightener for my daughter, who has thick hair. We read other reviews and wanted to purchase a quality straightener, and were willing to spend the money.
We didn't have it, but a month and half, when one of the plates stopped working all together. It heats uneven, and will cool down for no reason. Hair catches on the plates and pulls your hair out EVERY time!
Read the pamphlet it came with, tried to trouble shoot that darn thing, and bottom line.......it's a piece of junk.
Don't waste your money.

Not Satisfied by kmhernan from on 2010-09-07 I was very excited to get this product after I had read some of the reviews... but when I received my iron the on/off switch didn't work and I think that I got a knock-off. I emailed the seller but was told that I had to send mine back in first which I couldn't go with out an iron so I had to keep it and use it not working properly. I feel I paid a lot of money for a product that doesn't work correctly.
FOR THICK HAIR by K. Kuchar from on 2010-07-16 I read multiple reviews regarding the 1 inch and 2 inch CHI flat irons and was so nervous to invest in the two inch bc people didn't seem to like it better than the 1 inch and I read a lot of complaints that it is harder to use. I love the one inch but my hair is very thick and somewhat coarse and it takes me some time to flatten it all with the 1 inch. (Also I am impatient so tend to tend to take large chunks of hair rather than doing multiple small areas.) I LOVE THE 2 INCH CHI. Have had it about 3 months. It works so much better on my thick, coarse hair, flattening it quicker, and letting me take bigger chunks at a time while still doing a great job. It is better than the 1 inch. I think the reason some women haven't liked it is because I don't think the length of the hair really matters, I think it is thicker textured hair which does better with the two inch. I absolutely don't think it is awkward or hard to use. I am so glad I bought the two inch and will probably never go back to the one inch. This is the greatest hair straightener ever. (If you have thick hair also I would highly recommend the CHI blow dryer- I went all CHI and am saving probably like an hour a week in hair drying time!) Well worth the money- I wish I had invested in the CHI flat iron much sooner than I did.

2 years later and the 1" inch iron is still working great! by J. Potter from on 2010-06-30 I haven't had any problems, I love this product and it heats up very fast. But I also treat my iron very well and protect it like the $100 dollar investment it is. The ceramic coating hasn't peeled off, nor has the red velvet that protects your fingers. I am white and have shoulder length hair that is super thick, wavy & frizzy... but you can't tell after I use this product. I can get my hair done in about 15 or 20 minutes tops; unless I'm running behind, it only takes 5-10 for a semi-acceptable hair job. And it lasts all day! Compared to the cheaper strait irons (that are sold at places like Walmart for about $20-30) which took over an hour for me to get all the waves and frizz under control (and was half frizzy again by noon).The only warning I would give is to start at the low to medium heat settings and work your way up. When I say hot, I mean this puppy gets HOT! I think most people could easily burn their fingers or ears by touching their actual hair just after it has moved out of the iron on heat settings 8, 9 or 10. I also would suspect some of my black friends (chemically treated hair or not) could easily singe their hair off on the highest settings.Also, there is no automatic shut off!!! SO I always check twice that I unplugged it before leaving the house. I don't want to come home to a melted counter top or the house on fire!

She loves this flat iron. The heat element is very fast but do be careful it gets very very hot. The velvet strips on the flat iron are very helpful to use while pulling the hair down the shaft while flat ironing.

(yet you also have to make sure to turn it on, not just plug it in. even so, it's a minor first step and the auto-off outweighs it)The other feature I like with it is the digital temp reading.Highly recommended!

This iron is almost unusable because it snags my hair with every pass and breaks strands- painful when they're plucked from your scalp, too. It took forever to recieve it because i used the free supersaver shipping, which i will never do again! But the product itself was pretty good, if you dont use a heat protector or the oil product that chi sells then it doesnt straighten as well. But if used with the product and straightened in small sections then it works beautifully! and will stay straight for a few days! Also the heat does lower as you straighten hair. But if you turn the heat higher then it doesnt matter. I havent figured out how to use it to curl hair but I am having a lot of fun with it so far. All my friends like to come over to use it too because it is better than all of their hair straighteners! Over all it is better than any straightener that i have ever bought!

Compared to my original curling iron that I have used for over 10 years I found the CHI to work faster and better and my hair lasted until my next shampoo. I love how shiny it leaves my hair.

It took me almost an hour to straighten (and not totally straight) my shoulder length hair.This is the first Chi I every bought and I am SO GLAD I DID - it takes me 10 minutes to do my whole head. And I don't have to use a bunch of junk/ product. The iron gets nice and hot and the handle stays cool. It was not super expensive like some other the others I saw - it's a great value - highly recommended!!!!!

I did my research and I'm pretty sure that this product is a knock-off CHI. DO YOUR RESEARCH before you buy, and make sure the seller has a RETURN POLICY or you might be wasting your money.
Do not buy from Farouk! by Deborah L. West from on 2010-02-18 I bought a flat iron from Farouk for my daughter two weeks before Christmas. She began to use it on December 26th. January 27th the iron surged with heat, burned my daughter's hair (so that she had to cut the fried hair off) then quit working all together. Farouk said they only guarantee their products for 30 days and too bad! They would not work with me at all to replace, refund or repair the iron. It broke by J. Young from Granbury, TX on 2010-02-06 I bought the CHI Nano Ceramic Hairstyling Iron by Farouk - Blue 1" for my 17 year old daughter for Christmas, December 25. It worked great until yesterday, February 5th, when it quit working. It won't heat up. It lasted 5 weeks. Hopefully there is some type of warranty on this product so it will get replaced.
Great product by K. Keene from Bel Air, MD on 2010-02-06 I bought 2 flat irons as Christmas presents for my daughters. They loved them. The CHI straightens the hair quickly the first time. No need to go over sections and damage the hair. I would definitely recommend this product and would purchase it again for other people.
