Got it this week from Target, but had points, so I didn't pay full price. I actually like it better than the GVP (CHI knock off) I bought from Sally's. And I REALLY liked that one. I only gave it 4 stars, because I see it broke on some people within a year. I hope it doesn't do the same to me. I got it this week and like it because it straightens my natural hair very well and I don't seem to redo it as often, which is nice. It was every day with the GVP. Now it's only been every 2 or 3 days. All I have to do is wrap my hair. I also use it between 300 & 370 degrees. I also used a heat protectant with it, Beyond The Zone and Sabino Moisture Block. With this iron, I have a feeling I won't have to use it as often, or apply product all the time. So, so far, so good.

Perfect for Natural Hair

As an African American female who recently decided to grow out my hair relaxer, these flat irons are perfect (they would be even if my hair was relaxed). I started noticing a major difference in how my hair felt when I left the salon vs. when I did it myself. I used the same shampoo, conditioner, etc. Once I paid closer attention I realized that my stylist (and ALL the other stylists in the salon) used these flat irons - I mean, they had them in all different sizes and everything!These flat irons get very hot and make your hair very straight without burning or scorching your hair!!! My hair feels smooth and healthy after each curl. I'll warn you that they get very hot. I've had them for a few months now and I only keep them set to barely 300 degrees. pros - definitely salon quality, heats quickly, adjustable temperature dial, doesn't catch or pull on hair, straightens pretty quickly, leaves hair looking super smooth and healthy cons - i have long hair, and i'm used to a 2" straightener (rather than 1 3/4"), so it takes a bit longer than i'm used to. also sometimes it takes two passes to get a section totally straight.so far, a very good buy for the price (especially the lower amazon price) and professional quality. the real test will be how long it lasts before the heating element wears out. for the price, i'm hoping to get two years of regular use out of this one, but i've never used an FHI before, so we'll see!

The wrost flat iron ever!!!

I have read many of the reviews for the FHI, so I was really excited to receive my package. Well I was sadly disappointed. I think my earlier feelings of doubt were a warning sign! This flat iron made my hair extremely frizzy. I am a one pass girl and I set the temperature no higher than 350. For many years I have used the Paul Mitchell flattiron, for whatever reason the original flatiron was discontinued. 8( The Paul Mitchell flatiron made my hair shiny, silky and smooth. The FHI may have worked for some but not me!!! To be truly informative, those women like me, who happen to be biracial, or those with curly Afro textured hair may find the FHI to be a dud!!! Ladies beware!!!

Not even close to my expectations!

I was so excited to get my FHI. When it FINALLY arrived this morning, I opened it up, took a shower, and proceeded to put it to use. Just so you know, my hair isn't thick or thin, but somewhere in the middle. You know, average. But it is naturally curly... VERY naturally curly. So anyway, I read the instructions and set it to about 230, thinking I could always lower the temperature if that was too hot.After my hair was blow-dried, I put half of it up and started to gently press the plates on the bottom layer of my hair, and slid them down gently, without tugging or pulling (like the instructions said). And viola! The curl just popped right back at me, same as before.So now what? Well, I did what anyone would've done and moved the temperature up a bit and tried again. This time the curl slightly bounced back, but not like before. So after about ten strokes, the curl was gone and this piece of hair was perfectly straight... but I still had about a whole head of hair to go.Eventually it was all straight as a stick, and I decided I wanted a bit of a flip in the front. My hair is cut in the scene/punk style, so flipping is a must. I took some gel made for this, and put a little on the tips of my hair, then used the straightener to flip the ends... and nothing. As I write this review my hair is straight and a bit lifeless, but straight none the less. I bought this product thinking it could make my hair more flippy and straight, but no. I'm glad I bought it, but it's defiantly not what it claims to be.

I have purchased about 10 flat irons, some inexpensive some inexpensive and this is the best flat iron ever. Everyone remarks at the way my hair looks. I purchased a sedu a couple of weeks ago and sent it back after a week for a full refund, it left my hair feeling fried. I read the reviews and came up with the conclusion that even if it only lasts a year I would be completely happy with my purchase and would purchase it again. I do hope i get a solid year out of it. I would purchase it again and again.

I can't get past the smell

Does anyone have issues with the FHI Hot Sauce smelling really bad? I've noticed something - when I first squeeze out a dime size portion of the sauce, there is a pleasant flowery scent. However, it's a different story when I rub the product together between my hands to distribute in my hair. There is an overpowering, waxy smell (similar to Cheetos or cheese puffs??) that doesn't go away! I would have to wash my hands and hair twice to get the scent away. I purchased a second bottle just in case my first bottle was defective, but still got the same cheesy smell! I tried to get in contact with FHI about this, but I have yet been able to get through.This product seems to deliver its claim. However, I can't get past that horrible smell.

I read all the other reviews and decided to try this product. I only used a little but even so, it left a heavy waxy feel to my hair, I'm going to stick with Chi even though I don't care for the way it smells. At least Chi leaves my hair soft and shiney.

I have a 1" FHI iron and love it. I have extremely think wavy hair and looks like I was born with straight hair after using. It says right in the description that it heats up to over 400 degrees. It also doesn't state that it has a temperature control, which it doesn't, and it shouldn't. In order for a flat iron to be really effective at straightening hair, it has to get HOT and this one does. It is a great iron. I had mine for over 2 years before the cord got a short and am ordering a new one.

I bought this flat iron in a retail store, for a lot more than amazon's selling price. It's not a BAD flat iron.. but I had heard so much hype about the brand, I guess maybe I just got my hopes up too high. My hair is not really that long, just to my shoulders.. it is very thick though, and frizzy/curly. It takes me forever to straighten my hair. I've been using a remington that was much, much cheaper, and I had just hoped that this one would make flat ironing take less time. It took just as much time, and was just as difficult to use (and I'm no happier with the result than I was with the result from the cheaper one that I've been using). It just isn't worth the money, in my opinion. There isn't anything really wrong with it, but there isn't anything special about it either. I am going to return it.In case anyone is curious -- it has a regular plug (not one of those giant wall thingies), and is 120V only (not dual voltage). There's just an on/off switch, no temperature control (410F is all you get).

LOVE this flat iron

I have purchased a number of flat irons from department/drug stores and have been increasingly dissatisfied with them. Most seem to be heavy, clunky and never heat up enough. I purchased the FHI iron because my hairdresser highly recommends this brand. I like it because it is lightweight, heats up quickly and does a fast and efficient job of straightening my hair. My only caution would be that it does not have an auto shut-off, so you cannot assume that it will turn off if left plugged in. Other than that, I am glad I made this purchase.

bad iron and service

Was super excited to get my new fhi flat iron. A friend had one and was very impressed by the quality of the iron. The item took more then the expected delivery date. Got the iron and it didnt have the heat settings that i thought it would have. Description wasnt clear of that. Tried to call the number listed to see if i could return the iron and get my money back but the number was out of order. Went online and left feedback about what had happened. Months later a lady contacted me saying that she had read the feedback i had left and was sorry that i was unhappy with the item. She said that she would let me keep the iron and give me a full refund if i took the feedback off. I agreed, since the lady was so nice and convincing. She said it would take 48 hours for the refund to be in my account. I never received the refund. So this is my last effort to warn people NOT TO BUY from these people.

Good for the price

For the price, I think it's pretty good; I like it. It gets very hot (which is great if you're between relaxers), left my hair shiny and straight, and it glides very easily over the hair. I've used Gold 'N Hot, and Hot Tools; this left my hair looking much silkier.

I have used them all from inexpensive to very pricey including Babyliss and Chi. After experiencing two broken Chi flat irons I had enough. After purchasing the Fhi hair dryer and falling in love, I decided to buy the flat iron as well. I love it and have had no problems whatsoever with this brand. My hair is left silky and soft- I think this iron performs better than the Chi and the plates are so smooth- they never yank or pull my hair like cheap irons do. It is also lightweight and heats up very quickly. I won't go back to Chi at this point. So not worth it.

fhi vs chi

My mother and I both wanted to buy a flat iron but we couldn't decide whether to buy a FHI or a CHI.I went with this FHI and my mother bought the Farouk CHI 1 Inch.When our flat irons came in the mail we decided to compare them. They were used on the same person's hair.It was wavy and a little coarse. Both flat irons straightened the hair with perfect results only passing through once.There were only 2 minor differences.The FHI technique G2 created quite a bit more steam while straightening the hair. The FHI can also be set on it's side without falling over where as the CHI has to be laid flat.That being said, we are both very pleased with our flat irons and both should recieve 5 stars

Good for thick, coarse hair, but not natural, soft/fine hair

I bought the pink FHI Technique G2 after the FHI (Platform) was recommended. I bought it b/c it was cheaper. It does not have a temperature control and my hair starting breaking off; therefore,became increasingly damaged. It gets so hot and just burns your hair. If you have healthy, very think, and very coarse hair, this flat is for you. Otherwise, DON'T BOTHER! I am growing out my relaxer and I have VERY nappy, VERY tight kinky, but soft/fine African-American hair (and I have a lot of it). It broke my hair off badly! Also, the flat iron broke after a little over one year. It only got dropped 2 or 3 times. I just bought a Solia and it's WONDERFUL for naturally nappy, kinky, soft African-American hair. It gets my hair straight and doesn't burn it like thei FHI Technique G2.

FHI is great

Hands down the best flat iron I have ever used. I have had ones that fry your hair or leave marks. If your hair is breaking off with this iron it wasn't the iron that damaged it it was already damaged. My hair dresser and her mom have a salon and for years have used this iron so I bought one to use at home when I didn't have time to go to the salon. She uses the black one and hers has a temp setting but this one doesn't so people with thin or dry brittle hair may want a temp control. As with any heat styling product you must use a heat protector, I use Fantasia IC and the combo works great for my daughter as well as myself. This Iron is very durable , I have had mine for over 2 years now.

Salon Quality

This is by far the best flat iron on the market. I also own an GHD flat iron which is said to be top of the line. Although that flat iron gives me good results, I would have to my FHI is the best. I am African American and I have not relaxed my hair for the past six months so I have ton of new growth. This thing made my hair so straight that my husband thought I had a relaxer put in. Say good bye to the hair salon. Ladies, you will no longer need to go ! My only beef is that there is no heat adjuster. So it gets very hot and there is no way to control that!!! Still awesome though!

This seems like nothing more than a cheap piece of felt from the dollar store. It would be acceptable if the flat iron cord fit into the pouch, but this is not the case. Instead the cord has to be wrapped around the cheap felt case. For size reference, I use the Blaybliss Flat iron pro.

I have thick hair and I own some traditional hair clips for use when I'm straightening and blow-drying. Well, the regular old clips hold my hair for about 5 seconds before falling down and it drives me insane. I saw the T Rex clips in a few places online and they always had great reviews so I decided to go for it! These things are AMAZING! They are gentle and non-pulling yet they grip my hair so well I can even shake my head, bend down, do whatever! I would definitely buy these again and I'm going to tell my sister about them!
