How to Get Your Paint Color Ideas Matched Properly the First Time

Do you have an existing paint color that you want to use again, but you have forgotten or don't know what the paintcolor name is? Then read on to learn the best way to get that paint color matched at your local paint store.

Most paint stores now have computer paint color matching. Nearly any paint color, from nearly any object can now be computer matched and mixed into the paint that you wish to use.

If you have an item which has your paint color idea on it, then bring this into the store and they can can scan that item for you and produce the paint color.

If instead it is a paint color on your wall you want, then for best results you need to bring in, at a bare minimum a one inch by one inch square sample of the paint color that you wish to have matched. You may need to cut this out of your wall or you may have some of the paint left over in an old paint can.

If you have wet paint that you wish to have matched, then do not, if at all possible bring the wet paint into the store to be matched.

Paint a sample onto some plain white card, two coats of paint will give you best results, and allow it to dry fully before bringing it into the store. If you do bring in a wet sample, then your paint color match will not be as accurate as there will not be time for the sample to fully dry in the store even with the use of a hair dryer. You will get far better results if you bring a fully dry sample every time. This is especially important if you have wet oil based paint that you want matched.
