I have used this product for years. It is the only dandruff shampoo I have found that controls the itchy scalp, and does not leave your hair smelling like you just put put your head in a harsh chemical bowl. This shampoo is expensive, as compared to others, but it is well worth the money in my book.

Great product. In 30 years of medical practice, this is one of few OTC products I could recommend without reservation. Great for dandruff, and treats several fungal conditions as well (primarily tinea infections of skin). For some reason, I cannot find locally any more, but available on-line. I have ordered elsewhere, but find Amazon's price competitive, and service unexcelled anywhere. This is the only product I have ever been able to find that really works!!I do a MG217 Shampoo on Sundays, and Thursdays, and a VO5 Hot Oil Treatment on Tuesdays. It's been 3 weeks since I started using this Shampoo, and there is no sign of flaking, itching, nothing! I noticed relief right after the first few shampoos. This stuff really does work great. 5 stars!

A decent replacement for Pentrax

There is absolutely NOTHING that could ever take the place of Pentrax Shampoo. I have tried just about everything on the market. Came across this product and find that it at least takes the itching away and many of the flakes. Pentrax was sued by one man and was taken off the market because of a stinking warning label. Because of some do-gooder, I know that thousands are without the best product that ever was made for our problem.

I knew that italian border tax police (Dogana - Guardia di Finanza) sometimes stops stuff from Amazon US to charge for italian VAT (we call it IVA). What I didn't know is that for personal care products I needed to sign a document for the Italian Health Ministry!So, actually the shampoo is "hostage" in Milan Airport (I'm in Rome) waiting for my signature on this document, where I will declare that I know that this chemical product has not been authorized/analyzed in Italy and therefore I'm responsible for any damage that this product may cause to people here.I think that it would be nice to know in the shipping information this kind of things.I know that is hard to know what kind of rules run on every border, but if Amazon wants to sell products abroad I think this kind of transparency is something Amazon and Amazon's Partners definitely need to improve in the selling process.

beware of this shampoo

i had used Pentrax shampoo for years and it worked great. When i could no longer buy it I began reading up on other shampoos. I ordered MH217 and it burned my scalp plus my hair fell out in an inflamed spot. the doctor did a biopsy which showed alopecia areata but I had never had any indication of this before. Therefore I have to conclude it was the shampoo so be careful!

Gold in a bottle

I have tried many different shampoos, even prescription ones that cost 120 dollars per bottle! None of them took care of the intense itching, heavy flaking, redness, and scaling. I found this one at CVS pharmacy. I thought I'd try it knowing that it just wouldn't work. The first time I tried it, I loved it. The itching is gone! The scaling and redness are gone. There is still a tiny bit of flaking, but not much. I use it 2 times a week and do a VO5 Hot Oil treatment in between. My hair is shinny and my scalp doesn't keep me awake all night. I highly recommend this product.

I have had psoriasis of the scalp for several years and tried the popular shampoos on the market. I finally decided to check Amazon to see what products they would have and what various reviewers would recommend. That is how I found Beta Sal Medicated Shampoo and I am so glad that I did. It has worked wonders.

Beta Sal did not help my scalp psoriasis at all. It has the same active ingredient as the regular dandruff shampoo you get at the grocery store (3% salicylic acid). If you have tried selsun blue or head and shoulders and it hasn't worked for you, this product has the same main ingredient for 3 times the price. Don't buy it.

Didn't work for my husband.The minute he used this shampoo, dandruff started to fall from his head like snow, even his friends noticed that dandruff has worsened. He used it for about 2 weeks, every other day and stopped. He said, he would never use it again....

I would not normally write a review for a product like this, but after a lot of research I just had to let others know that I finally found some relief! I unfortunately suffer from Seborrhoeic dermatitis. I use this shampoo every two to three days in combination with Head and Shoulders severe dandruff shampoo. Washing my hair EVERY day with one or the the other has virtually removed all the flakiness and made my scalp feel great with my hair very light and easy to manage. I would highly recommend this product.

An excellent shampoo for people with a lot of sensitivities

While I can't give this shampoo a perfect rating, I still feel it deserves a very high rating for what it does, and at least for me, it works very well.When you're dealing with the intense skin sensitivities that go along with dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema (and such conditions) it's important to keep in mind that your mileage really WILL vary. ANY soap or shampoo may potentially contain an ingredient that triggers your personal sensitivities, even when it's beneficial to others. Someone else mentioned Nizoral AD being superior to this product, but that's the one that triggers a strong allergic skin response in me; I can't use it. Dermarest is milder and safer for me.The big advantage that Dermarest also has, as far as I'm concerned, is the absence of heavy perfumes and chemical odors. I have strong respiratory sensitivities to chemicals along with my skin sensitivities, and most of the other shampoos intended for psoriasis sufferers literally make me choke. This is the only psoriasis shampoo I've ever found that I can tolerate in that regard; kudos to Dermarest for that.The only downside I've experienced is the lather... it can be very hard to get a good lather going so I often have to shampoo my hair two or three times to feel that it's been fully cleaned and that I've reached my scalp (this may also be because I have very thick hair). Other than that, I have no complaints.My personal feeling is that this is an excellent product for people with skin sensitivities, especially if you also have respiratory sensitivities and need to avoid heavy perfumes. But make sure to check the ingredients to ensure that none of them are ones you're supposed to avoid, and do a skin allergy test before using it on your full head, because if you NEED this kind of shampoo to begin with, you shouldn't take it for granted that ANY formulation on the market is instantly safe for you to use. (This is in response to the users who said it worsened their condition.) This does contain salicylic acid (the active ingredient in aspirin), so if you've been told to avoid that, this shampoo isn't for you. For me, it's almost perfect.

Great item!

I use this now that the dermatitis on my scalp is more under control - keeps the build-up away, and the conditioner makes this shampoo less harsh than others. My Wal-Mart stopped carrying it, so I am looking for it on-line. All scalp conditions are different, and there are many products out there. I just kept trying them, and this one works great for me at this point in time.

I bought this shampoo rather than spending a few more dollars on Nizoral AD. I was excited that this was not only a shampoo but that it had conditioner and no smell. What a mistake! It's made my scalp worse than it has ever been before. It brought on itching and scaling that were not pre-existing conditions. I'll be shelling out the extra cash to get Nizoral AD from now on.

Was afraid to use a dandruff shampoo because it might be harsh and make hair look awful. This particular Selsun Blue (the 2-In-One) controls the dandruff and actually is the best thing I've used cosmetically for my hair. Was very pleasantly surprised. Please note that the other Selsun Blue formulations did not work as well for me. Probably depends on an individual's dry/normal/oily condition.

This is a good value for the money, and if you are someone with a sensitive scalp this will help tremendously. I don't have a dandruff problem but I use this product because it is the only one that doesn't "set my scalp off", meaning, itching, burning, etc.Even though it says that it has conditioner in the product, you are going to need to use a separate conditioner (unless your hair is really short and you don't have to brush it).
