Chemistry Smoothing for men?

My hair is very thick and slightly wavy, dry and a little firzzy. I'm thinking of getting my hair chemically straightened because I tried straightening balms and all that but it didn't work. My hair is only 4 cm long (1.6 inches). Is it worth getting chemically straightened? How much of this cost the procedure in my hair? Any alrenatives?
