Can I bleach my hair blonde and then die it a darker blonde shade right after?

My hair is now medium lenght, 2 3inches below shoulder. The color is reddish/brown. The roots came out so I have like 2 inches of dark brown hair. I want to bleach my hair at home using Clairol "Herbal Essences" bleach blonde lightenig kit. I've never used it so I want to know it its ok. Then I want to die my hair with L'oreal "Natural Match" light ash blonde 9c cool shade. If I die my hair right after bleaching or the next day will it be ok? I just don't want to go to school with bleached hair, I assume it will be orange or yellow which I do not want.
I live in Toronto, ON , Canada.

Well I have almost black hair naturally with red so probably much like yours and when I was in high school I wanted a red orange color (Im weird I know) and with my luck it was just what I wanted red orange but not something anyone else liked. I did it myself. I liked it I always liek different things. However my sister tried the same thing her hair and hers turned green. Im not going to tell you not to do it because I honestly dont know how it would turn out for you. But what I would do is go to a GOOD salon one where the girls look hip and really seem to know what they are talking about. Then ask them how can you achieve the look you want. Maybe have them do it first then tell them you cant afford to continue to go to a salon how can you achieve this look at home on your own. Or you can try a sally beauty supply and ask them what they have there and how to do it. All the stores I've gone in the girls there are really nice and seem to know what they're talking about. I found this site after I wrote this check it out. Good luck.

Also recently I dyed my hair black on accident trying to get the blonde highlights that had grown out to go back to my drark brown red color. So I tried a color that was supposed to lighten it and I did it a week after dyeing it black and well ummm my hair has this really weird color in it. Once again I kinda liked it so I lleft it I decided to just let it grown out this time and probably never dye it again. But I use "dumb blonde" by tigi it's a deep conditioner which by the way isnt just for blondes. I only shampoo every other day and on the days I dont shampoo I put the deep conditioner in 10 minutes prior to my shower then wash it out in the shower. my hair is real healthy now too. I know you probably dont need to hear all this blab but I figure if I give you some of my tips I might as well give all of them. When you wash your hair you wash out all the sebum which is basically your hairs natural grease which keeps it healthy. When you condition it you kind of protect your hair so if you wash every other day the sebum is in there long enough to keep your hair soft anf shiny.

Great Prom Hair - Tips and Tricks

How is it that some girls have great prom hair, and other girls don't? It all depends on how you take care of your hair, and what you use on it. It is not easy. We all know how important it is to look good, and have the latest trend even on our heads. There are a few tricks you could try to get the hair style you want but most importantly, it is always a good idea to take good care of your hair and try to find a great hair doctor to help you with it! By hair doctor, I mean hair stylist at a salon. Most are very knowledgeable and can take a dried out frizz-ball, and nurse it back to a healthy beautiful head of hair. I am guilty of having my own hair doctor, and I am very happy I do!

A few tricks to try and are highly recommend, not to mention fun, quick and easy, are to find some hair extensions to match your natural hair color. I use them, and love them! It is highly suggested to take a close girlfriend or family member to the store to make sure the extensions match your natural color. That is actually the easy part. The more difficult part is to make sure when using them, it is not too obvious there are any extensions in the hair by making sure the clips are hidden well. The only thing to do in this situation is to play with the hair. An extra helping hand and set of eyes won't hurt either. This experiment would make for a great pajama party to learn how to use them with other hair-extension girlfriends!

There are a few different kinds of extensions to pick from depending on what you want to do. There are individual "chunks" of hair you could buy to just clip or glue onto strategic places where they are needed, or there are more expensive pieces that pin up on half of the head. There are also colorful single "chunks" to purchase at beauty supply stores, but not all carry the colorful strands. These are great to match up with your dress color or for a more rock star look. They can also be used every day for fun to spruce up any hairstyle or outfit. I am also guilty of using them on a regular basis!

Most importantly, take excellent care of your hair. Notice the word used here is excellent? How you take care of your hair directly reflects how it looks. This is obvious, isn't it? Well, even though most people know this, they don't follow it. Bleaching hair for summer is a big no, and damages the hair greatly. Yet most people still do it. Bleach blonde hair is a thing of the past. Natural and healthy hair is the thing of the present and future, for that matter. Keep in mind that most over the counter colors are okay to use once in a while, but a healthy color is always best if applied by a professional at a salon. Even if you can't afford a hairstylist on a regular basis, going once to an excellent salon and getting to know what your hair needs and what to use will make a world of difference. If you decide to do more drastic things like coloring your hair, you will definitely need to go more often. It may take a few trips and special treatments to get back to healthy, but it will definitely be worth it.

It is not impossible to have a beautiful healthy hair style for prom or any other occasion. Just keep in mind that it does take a little bit of time, effort, and money. If you'll be trying to style your hair yourself, it is always a good idea to prep ahead of time and have an extra set of hands to help you out and an extra big mirror. Don't wait until the last minute either. Doing your homework and shopping around for hair extensions a few weeks ahead of time, will help greatly if you choose to go that route. So, take care of your hair, and good luck styling!

Use an old towel to protect your clothing and household surfaces. Put on your gloves. Pull up the tab to remove the plastic tip of the Developing Crème [2] and discard tip. After removing tip, unscrew the nozzle. Unscrew top of the ColorFused Gel [1] and pour every last drop into the Developing Crème [2]. For shades XL2 and XL4, squeeze every last drop of the ColorFused Gel [1] (previously opened for skin allergy test – see below) into the Developing Crème [2]. Replace the applicator nozzle of the Developing Crème [2]. Place gloved finger over tip, point away from face, and shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds, until totally blended.Apply color immediately to hair. Once mixed, never reseal bottle or store color mixture in a closed container as it could burst. STEP TWO COLOR CLEVERLY!Squeeze applicator bottle to apply mixture onto hair. When lightening, squirt mixed color first where hair is darkest. For that please-go-away-gray, squirt mixed color first where hair is grayest.Work through hair to distribute evenly from roots to ends, but do not rub into scalp.Pile hair loosely on top of your head and begin timing. If any color gets on your skin or household surfaces, simply wipe it off with a damp paper towel.Throw unused mixed color away. Once mixed, product will lose its effectiveness after one hour.PLEASE NOTE: The color of the product is not indicative of the color results. STEP THREE TIME IT FLAWLESSLY Time for 25 minutes or the time indicated by your strand test. For more intense results, for stubborn gray, or for shades XL2 and XL4, leave on for a total of 40 to 45 minutes. STEP FOUR RINSE AND SHINE!Wearing gloves, add warm water to hair and gently work into a lather.Rinse until water runs clear. Apply Herbal Essences Color-Amplifying Conditioner [3] to lock in color and seal in high-beam shine.Let it work its magic for 2 minutes.Rinse and style.Save your Color-Amplifying Conditioner [3] and use once a week for up to a total of six weeks for continual shine release. ROOT APPLICATION (IDEAL TO COVER NEW GROWTH OR TO REFRESH COLOR AFTER 4-6 WEEKS.) Mix the ColorFused Gel [1] and Developing Crème [2] as described in STEP ONE. Part hair into 4 sections and secure with plastic hair clips.Let down the first section and make small parts with the applicator tip. Apply mixed color only to new growth at the roots. Continue section by section, until all root hair is saturated with Herbal Essences Color Me Vibrant. If any color gets on your skin or household surfaces, simply wipe it off with a damp paper towel.Let hair drink in color mixture for 20 minutes (or 5 minutes less than the time indicated in your strand test). Leave on up to 40 minutes for vibrant red shades, shades XL2 and XL4 or to cover those please-go-away grays.Next, work remaining product throughout the hair right down to the ends. Leave on for 5 more minutes.Throw unused mixed color away. Once mixed, product will lose its effectiveness after one hour.Rinse and condition as outlined in STEP FOUR above. WHOLE HEAD OF BLONDING  for shades XL0 and XL1(IDEAL FOR FIRST-TIMERS OR FOR CHANGING YOUR EXISTING COLOR.)STEP ONE MIX IT! Use an old towel to protect your clothing and household surfaces. Put on your gloves. Holding away from face, shake the Bleach Blonde Powder [1a] packette before opening to make sure contents settle to the bottom.Remove the cap from the Developing Crème [2] bottle and pour the contents of the Bleach Blonde Powder [1a] packette into the bottle. Put on the special applicator tip and place a gloved finger over the opening. Shake well until powder dissolves. Unscrew the applicator tip of the Developing Crème [2]. Then unscrew cap from Bleach Blonde Gel or Crème [1b] and puncture foil seal with pointed end of cap. Squeeze contents of Bleach Blonde Gel or Crème [1b] into Developing Crème [2]. Replace applicator tip. Place gloved finger over tip, point away from face, and shake bottle vigorously for at least 15 seconds, until totally blended.Apply lightening mixture immediately to hair. Never reseal bottle or store lightening mixture in a closed container. Once mixed, a sealed container of lightener could burst. STEP TWO LIGHTEN CLEVERLY!For longer hair: Comb hair thoroughly. Part hair into 4 sections and hold it in place with plastic clips. Using the tip of the applicator bottle, apply mixture generously to each section. Apply 2/3 of the mixture starting 1-inch from the scalp through to the ends. Be sure to saturate each hair strand. Careful! Don't pack your locks down; when finished, pile hair loosely on your head. Don't use all the mixture, as you will need some for the roots later on.If any of the lightening mixture gets on your skin or household surfaces, simply wipe it off with a damp paper towel.PLEASE NOTE: Use enough product to ensure the hair is fully saturated. As the hair is lightening, if you see any dark spots or uneven coverage, reapply more mixture to these areas. For short hair: Right after mixing, apply mixture generously to dry hair. Beginning at the front, evenly disperse mixture all over hair, making sure to saturate every hair strand. Work through the hair. DO NOT RUB MIXTURE INTO SCALP!If any of the lightening mixture gets on your skin or household surfaces, simply wipe it off with a damp paper towel.PLEASE NOTE: Use enough product to ensure the hair is fully saturated. As the hair is lightening, if you see any dark spots or uneven coverage, reapply more mixture to these areas. STEP THREE TIME IT FLAWLESSLY For short hair: Time for 30 minutes, or the time indicated by your strand test. If hair is not light enough, check every five minutes up to a maximum total time of 45 minutes. Move to step four once you get your desired blonding. For longer hair: Leave the mixture on for 15 minutes. Then apply the remainder of the mixture on the 1-inch root area, beginning at the back of the head. Gently spread the mixture on the roots to saturate thoroughly. DO NOT RUB MIXTURE INTO SCALP!Start timing again, checking frequently. Leave on the root area for the time indicated by your strand test or for up to a maximum total time of 45 minutes. Move to step four once you get your desired blonding.Pour any unused mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose its effectiveness after one hour.If you have any questions about your STEP FOUR RINSE AND SHINE!Wearing gloves, rinse hair until water runs clear.Squeeze excess water from hair. With cool to lukewarm water, shampoo hair gently using a mild shampoo. Rinse thoroughly to ensure lightening process has stopped.Apply Herbal Essences Shine-Amplifying Conditioner [3] to help lock in that high-beam shine.Let it work its magic for 2 minutes. Rinse and style.PLEASE NOTE: Use the Shine-Amplifying Conditioner [3] once a week for up to a total of 6 weeks to maintain your shine. ROOT APPLICATION  (IDEAL TO COVER NEW GROWTH OR TO REFRESH COLOR AFTER 4-6 WEEKS.) Mix the Bleach Blonde Powder [1a], Bleach Blonde Gel or Crème [1b] and Developing Crème as described in step one. Part hair into 4 sections and secure with plastic hair clips. Let down the first section and make small parts in the hair with the applicator tip. Apply mixture only to new growth at the roots. Continue section by section, until all the roots are saturated with mixture. Avoid overlapping into previously lightened hair as this could cause breakage. Time for 30-45 minutes, or the time indicated by your strand test. Pour any unused mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose its effectiveness after one hour. Rinse & shine as outlined in step four. PLEASE NOTE: The best lightening results are possible when you've applied the product carefully. If you are coloring your hair for the first time and only want to enhance your natural color, try a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product close to your natural haircolor. If you want to go lighter, you need to select a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) haircolor, then refer to the insert that comes inside your box of Clairol haircolor and follow the instructions for first time application.SHOULD PEOPLE WHO WANT TO COVER GRAY HAIR USE DIFFERENT COLORING PRODUCTS THAN THOSE WHO DON'T NEED COVERAGE?Most Clairol haircolor products will blend or cover gray hair to some degree. If you have a small percentage of gray (not very visible), use a Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos) product, such as Loving Care. If you have a higher percentage of gray hair (up to 50%), use a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product such as Natural Instincts, which will blend away gray hair. On the other hand, if you have a lot of gray and want to cover it completely, use a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) product. If you have 50% or more gray, use Nice 'n Easy Gray Solution.HOW CAN I TEST-RUN A COLOR BEFORE COMMITTING TO COLORING MY ENTIRE HEAD OF HAIR?Strand test is a simple method for you to test haircolor on a portion of your hair before doing the entire application. How To UseGET READY TO LIGHTENUse an old towel to protect your clothing and household surfaces.Have a clock handy for timing.Wear the gloves provided when you prepare and apply the lightening mixture.HOW TO PREPARE HIGHLIGHTING MIXTURE Holding away from face, shake the Lightening Powder (1) packette before opening to make sure contents settle to the bottom.Wearing the gloves provided, remove the cap from the Developing Creme (2) bottle and pour the contents of the Lightening Powder (1) packette into the bottle. (Note: if using Born Blonde Maxi, be sure to use both Lightening Powder (1) packettes.) Put on the special applicator tip and place a gloved finger over the opening. Shake well until powder dissolves.Reopen and pour the Liquid Lightener (3) into the Developing Creme (2) bottle. Replace the tip.Place a gloved finger over the applicator tip opening. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.Apply the lightening mixture to your hair immediately. Never reseal bottle or store color mixture in a closed container. Once mixed, a sealed container of haircolor could burst. HOW TO APPLY LIGHTENING MIXTUREFor first time lightener users STEP 1 APPLY LIGHTENING MIXTURE Part dry hair into four sections and use plastic clips to secure in place.Start at the darkest part of your head (usually at the back). Make narrow 1/4 inch parts and squeeze applicator bottle to apply Born Blonde to each hair strand, keeping lightening mixture 1 inch away from scalp. Use your gloved fingers to work the lightening mixture through to hair ends, but do not apply to root area at this stage.Continue until the hair strands of all four sections are evenly covered with lightening mixture. You should save 1/3 of the lightening mixture to complete the application at the root area.If any lightening mixture gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp paper towel. STEP 2 TIMELeave the lightening mixture on your hair for half the length of time indicated by your Strand Test or 20 minutes.Check the progress of your blonding from the first section of hair applied with the lightening mixture. Wipe a strand with a damp paper towel and check the shade. Your hair should have no red tones and should have lightened to the orange stage similar to the color of a pumpkin. If the hair strand is not light enough, reapply the lightening mixture to the same strand and continue checking every 5 minutes.Once the strand from the first section has reached the orange stage of lightening, YOU CAN NOW APPLY THE LIGHTENING MIXTURE TO THE ROOT AREA. Begin at the darkest part of your hair as before. Make 1/4 inch parts and apply the lightening mixture to the 1 inch root area that you left uncovered. Continue until the root area of all four sections is evenly covered with lightening mixture. Gently work the remaining lightening mixture through all of your hair, but do not rub into scalp. Loosely pile hair on top of head and resume timing.Leave the lightening mixture on for the remaining time indicated by your Strand Test. Maximum total time should not exceed 90 minutes.Check the progress of your blonding from the first section of hair applied with the lightening mixture. Wipe a strand with a damp paper towel. Check evenness of lightening, from root to tip. If your root area does not match hair ends, reapply the lightening mixture to the same strand and continue checking every 5 minutes until you achieve overall even lightening. STEP 3 RINSE, SHAMPOO & CONDITIONThoroughly rinse the lightening mixture from your hair until the water runs clear.Shampoo hair with a mild shampoo.Apply the Moisture Intensive Conditioner evenly to hair. For best results leave on for 2 to 5 minutes.Rinse and style your hair as usual. Discard any unused lightening mixture. If toning hair, please refer to the Haircolor Selection Guide* and apply toner according to its accompanying instructions. To keep hair shiny week after week, use the Moisture Intensive Conditioner once a week after shampooing. ROOT APPLICATIONFor hair lightener users who lighten every 1-2 months For hair lightener users with hair ends that are too light STEP 1 APPLY LIGHTENING MIXTURE Part dry hair into four sections and use plastic clips to secure in place.Start at the darkest part of your head (usually at the back). Make narrow 1/4 inch parts and squeeze applicator bottle to apply lightening mixture only to the new growth at the roots. Do not overlap lightening mixture onto previously lightened hair. Continue until the new growth at the roots of all four sections is evenly covered with lightening mixture. If any lightening mixture gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp paper towel. STEP 2 TIMELeave the lightening mixture on your hair for half the length of time indicated by your Strand Test or 10 minutes. Body heat from the scalp accelerates the lightening action making new growth lighten in less time. Check the progress of your blonding from the first section of hair applied with the lightening mixture. Wipe a strand with a damp paper towel. If your new growth at the roots has not reached the level of lightness that matches your previously lightened hair ends, reapply the lightening mixture to the same strand at the root area and continue checking every 5 minutes until you reach the lightness desired. If you have not reached the lightness desired after 90 minutes, refer to Strand Test** for further instructions. If you have any questions, call the Expert Color Consultants for advice. Do not exceed maximum time of 90 minutes. Haircolor Selection Guide* If you want your hair to be: You'll love Clairol Natural Instincts Shade: Light Blonde 02 Sahara (Light Blonde) Medium Golden Blonde 04 Sunflower (Medium Golden Blonde) Medium Ash Blonde 06 Linen (Medium Ash Blonde) Strawberry Blonde 7R Saharan Rose (Strawberry Blonde) Useful Tips from Born Blonde If you have purchased Born Blonde Maxi lightener kit, your kit will contain 2 Supreme Lightening Activator Powder packettes. Born Blonde Original & Born Blonde Ultra Blue will contain one packette. If this is your first tie apply a hair lightener, and your hair is longer than shoulder length or very thick, you may need two boxes of your chosen lightener. Apply Born Blonde lightener to dry hair that is free of styling product build-up, shampoo at least one day before applying any Born Blonde lightener. However DO NOT shampoo immediately before applying Born Blonde lightener, as this will wash away the natural oils that help protect your scalp during the lightening process. Expert Lightening Advice When lightening for the first time, be sure to apply the lightener mixture to the root area last to ensure even blonding results. Body heat from the scalp accelerates the lightening action making hair nearest the scalp lighten faster than hair ends.During lightening, hair goes through some or all of the following stages of lightening: 1) Black 2) Brown 3) Red 4) Orange 5) Gold 6) Yellow 7) Pale Yellow The darker your current hair color, the more stages your hair must be lightened through to achieve a blonde result. Don't be surprised if you see red, orange, or gold tones in your hair after you have applied Born Blonde. Leaving the lightener mixture on longer will remove them and allow you to reach your desired level of lightness. If using any of these Born Blonde lighteners to pre-lighten hair before adding our recommended toner, lighten hair to yellow without a trace of red, orange, or gold tones. This yellow color is similar to the color of a banana skin. Lighten hair to pale yellow, similar to the color of the inside of a banana, if adding a very light blonde toner. Please see Hair color selection Guide inside. Reapply Born Blonde lightener every 4 to 6 weeks using the Touch-Up Application method. Be sure to reapply only to the new growth at the roots. Do not overlap lightener mixture onto previously lightened hair; this could weaken hair and cause breakage. Clairol Frequently Asked QuestionsWHAT PRODUCTS DOES CLAIROL MAKE?Clairol makes haircolor products. Choose from Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos), Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos), Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) or Highlighting & Blonding to help you become colorwonderful™.SHOULD INDIVIDUALS WITH NATURAL, UNCOLORED HAIR USE DIFFERENT HAIRCOLOR PRODUCTS THAN THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY COLORED THEIR HAIR?It depends on the desired result. (The instructions are in your haircolor box.) It's an important step because it's the only way to see exactly how the shade you selected works with your starting haircolor to achieve the resulting color. A strand test will also help you determine the exact timing you'll need to color your whole head.WHERE CAN I FIND PRODUCT INSTRUCTIONS?Product instruction inserts are inside your haircolor box.Additional InstructionsBEFORE YOU LIGHTENRead this entire instruction leaflet before you begin.Do the STRAND TEST to determine your optimum lightening time.Do not shampoo immediately before lightening – your scalp has natural oils that help protect it. If hair has excess styling product build-up, shampoo the day before.Do not use Born Blonde if your hair is treated with henna or color restorers, permed, or relaxed. Call the Expert Color Consultants for advice. STRAND TESTDo the STRAND TEST each time you lighten to determine optimal timing and results and to confirm that your hair is in the right condition to use Born Blonde. Sun, chlorine and previous haircoloring can affect your timing and results. You will need: scissors, tape, plastic bowl, plastic spoon and a clock.Cut a 1/4 inch wide strand from the darkest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.Put on gloves provided. Prepare the test mixture. Holding away from face, shake the Lightening Powder (1) packette before opening to make sure contents settle to the bottom. Mix 1/4 teaspoon for Ultra Blue or Original Formula or 1/2 teaspoon for Maxi Blonde Formula, of the Lightening Powder (1) with 2 teaspoons of Developing Creme (2) in a plastic bowl. Reseal Lightening Powder (1) tightly to avoid spilling. Then add 1 teaspoon of the Liquid Lightener (3) and mix well. Completely cover the hair strand with the lightening mixture and start timing. Refer to the Born Blonde Shade Results Chart on the back of the box for your expected lightening result. Depending on how light you want your hair to be, you should leave the lightening mixture on a minimum of 20 minutes, up to a maximum of 90 minutes. After 20 minutes, wipe the strand clean. If the strand is not light enough, return it to the lightening mixture and check every 5 minutes. Remember your hair looks darker when wet.Rinse the strand thoroughly and towel dry gently. If the strand shows any breakage or gumminess, do not proceed with the overall application. Your hair is not in good condition and may need a trim or deep conditioning. Call the Clairol Expert Color Consultants for advice. **IF THE STRAND DID NOT LIGHTEN SUFFICIENTLY AFTER 90 MINUTES, you will need to do two separate applications. Be sure to repeat the Strand Test using the lightened hair strand from the first Strand Test to determine repeat application timing and lightening results and to confirm that your hair is in the right condition to reapply Born Blonde. Remember, when reapplying lightener, allow 24 hours to elapse between each application. If your scalp is sensitive, wait another 24 hours before reapplying. Repeat application timing should not exceed 45 minutes. Rinse and save gloves.SPECIAL CAUTIONSThis product contains ingredients including hydrogen peroxide, which may cause severe eye irritation and possible permanent eye injury.
